but I can't do that thing anymore, can't be the thing I was before

If I were to take a road trip to the House on the Rock (and really, how else would you get there?), Google Maps estimates that it would be about 19 hours worth of driving. It's not all that different from the drive to Chicago that I did a few times, only with Boston as a point of departure rather than Hartford. Leaving from Boston the direct route would have as possible stops along the way:

  • Albany, NY

  • Rochester, NY

  • Buffalo, NY

  • Eerie, PA

  • Cleveland, OH

  • South Bend, IN

  • Chicago, IL

  • Rockford, IL

  • Madison, WI

Some of those are, of course, places I have been before. But I could do it in style, this time, if I chose. Save up money and do a great big road trip to the heart of the country. The sort of thing perfectly suited for the Summer.

Maybe I'm crazy.

let me know

if you stop in cleveland. You can crash at my folks' place, assuming I'm in town when you travel. It's a good midway point from east coast to far midwest.

Another Cleveland option: challenging me and my husband to a blood-thirsty game of Settlers of Catan!

Goes without saying...

I'm sure you have plenty of places in Chicago to stay but you are always welcome in Wrigleyville with Dom and I. If you do come through and need a place count us in. I even have a guest room with rather comfortable futon :)

For someone who hardly ever checks on LJ's this was a good day to check in. Yay for me.
