enthusiastick: (the quiet)
I had a bit of a laid-back weekend, but a good one I think. Friday night I didn't do anything at all, unless achieving a vegetative state in front of uninteresting television counts, and that was probably a bit much. But then Saturday I hung around with [livejournal.com profile] sleetfall and went to see Goblet of Fire, which was spectacular. I've never seen Hogwarts look so much like Hogwarts does in my mind's eye. They trimmed more fat from the story than I would have thought possible. And certainly they trimmed a bit of the lean along with the fat; that was the only way to make the whole thing fit into 2.5 hours. As it turns out, what was cut could afford to be lost, at least in the context of this movie. I can't conceive of them pulling the same trick with HP5, however, which worries me slightly.

But I will leave my worries for another post. A good evening of movie-watching was topped off by the (to me) unexpected arrival of mutual friend Rachel S, who was up from Rhode Island for a wedding and was apparently crashing at [livejournal.com profile] sleetfall's for the night. The three of us sat around talking for a while, although not too late, as [livejournal.com profile] sleetfall remains worryingly sick. We went out for lunch the next day, too, trucking out to Cambridge in order to have sushi at Blue Fin. That proved an excellent decision. I discovered that Blue Fin does a lunch special consisting of cold soba, a salad in sesame dressing, and six rolls of freshwater eel & cucumber sushi. That's possibly my perfect lunch right there. I also got some Botan Rice Candy at the little grocery next door and briefly shopped for one of those Japanese door hanging thingies (sounds like noren, but I'm probably misspelling that.) But of course I have my car insurance payment hanging over my head like a curse and preventing me from buying anything other than food. Christmas is going to be tricky, to say the least.

Sunday afternoon I retired to my apartment to do some laundry, and there I remained, mostly just enjoying being lazy. I considered my filthy apartment at length without actually doing all that much about it. Its not really all that dirty, all things considered. The bedroom area just needs a twice over, once to straighten up and put things in their proper place and once to dust and vaccuum. The kitchen is the primary disaster area. I hate dishes, and I haven't done any in ages, so that now I'm basically out and my sink has long since overflown. I don't want to start that pile, but I'm committed to cleaning the whole apartment from top to bottom before Thanksgiving. Speaking of which, three day week, boo-yah. Let's get psyched about the holiday, right?
