OK. Its another meme-type thing I made up. Go through your friends list and try and pick out a song for every person on it. You don't have to bother with communities and such unless inspiration strikes you. Here is my list:

[livejournal.com profile] amaltheagray: sixpence none the richer - there she goes
[livejournal.com profile] attackmonkey: leonard cohen - everybody knows
[livejournal.com profile] bobbler: garbage - you look so fine
[livejournal.com profile] calhin: goldfinger - get away (or sum 41 - nothing on my back)
[livejournal.com profile] cassielsander: cake - comfort eagle
[livejournal.com profile] celeloriel: brand new - last chance to lose your keys
[livejournal.com profile] erzulie: eve 6 - open road song
[livejournal.com profile] herod_the_nut: the mr. t experience - even hitler had a girlfriend
[livejournal.com profile] inediblebuddha: tsunami bomb - lemonade
[livejournal.com profile] juineve: wir sind helden - müssen nur wollen (or brand new - secondary)
[livejournal.com profile] kittysweetheart: indigo girls - fare thee well (or sarah mclachlan - prayer of st. francis)
[livejournal.com profile] lassarina: goldfinger - margaret ann
[livejournal.com profile] lightdarkgrey: nofx - I'm not insane
[livejournal.com profile] loopygirl: the get up kids - out of reach
[livejournal.com profile] manslayerliz: brand new - moshi moshi
[livejournal.com profile] nakanai: nine inch nails - the becoming
[livejournal.com profile] oberndorf: great big sea - ordinary day
[livejournal.com profile] pax_malificus: five iron frenzy - my evil plan to save the world
[livejournal.com profile] rollick: john mayer - 3x5 (or yann tiersen - la valse d'amelie, orchestra version)
[livejournal.com profile] sabrielrose: atom and his package - for aliza whenever she may sleep
[livejournal.com profile] spreadnparanoia: brand new - the boy who blocked his own shot (or pretenders - human)
[livejournal.com profile] syganzychick mary prankster - tempest (or sr-71 - they all fall down)
[livejournal.com profile] timeshaper: reel big fish - beer
[livejournal.com profile] zerbie: rem - the great beyond

Some of these are because the lyrics make me think of the person, sometimes its just that I have reason to associate the song with them, and some I simply can't explain. I'm also willing to admit that a few of them are stretches on my part - I'll make corrections if I think of something better.

If you're too lazy to bother doing this for everyone, I'd be interested if you had any thoughts on a song for me.

You got two whole songs, you git. And the first one is by a band I wouldn't have even started listening to if I hadn't noticed, while in Germany, that the lead singer Judith looks a little something like you from certain angles.

[livejournal.com profile] erzulie is Alana, an NU friend who's studying some aspect of technical theater. She does, in fact, rock.

Dude! I totally didn't mean it as an insult. Look up the lyrics!

Nixon had his puppy, Charles Manson had his clan -- but God forbid that I get a girlfriend...

This requires time for thought that I will not have, due to the flying out of town at 7 this morning. Must also eventually look up these songs and get some idea what you're talking about.

Its entirely cool. :) For your short term edification, one of the key lyrics in the main song listed for you is:

maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm in the mood to lose my way with words

The lyric is later reprised/modified as:

maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm in the mood to lose my way, but let me say you should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes, it brought me back to life. you'll be with me next time I go outside, just no more three by fives...

This is way cool! Can you tell me a little about the song and why you chose it for me? Do you have an MP3 you can send me?

Intriguing. At least I know the song. And like it, come to think.

It was very strange. I was stuck for a bit as to which song to choose for you, and then it just occurred to me that your song was definitely a Cake song. From there it was just a process of elimination to the one I liked best for you.

I am more than happy to e-mail you a copy of the song. Sad to say its sort of an overwhelmingly depressing song, but its still one I like. Let me know what you think.

I feel so discriminated against! And all because I have no live journal. Oh the horror.
- Kat

The incredibly sad thing is that I would consider signing up for one just to find out my song, if one does indeed exist.

Your song would probably be Counting Crows - Up All Night.

If you did get a livejournal, you would hardly be the only person I know who has one and doesn't actually post in it. Look at [livejournal.com profile] pax_malificus, [livejournal.com profile] timeshaper and until recently [livejournal.com profile] spreadnparanoia.

Thank you, I'm flattered. Also impressed that you picked the one song that I end up singing every time I'm alone in my car and the radio sucks. If I've actually told you that before, you have a good memory.
