Gah! Where does the time go? No seriously. A number of things have occurred since I last updated, and now they're all jumbled and out of order in my head.

The thing that's sticking out in my mind most is that this Saturday [livejournal.com profile] spreadnparanoia and I headed down into Chicago to check out the newly opened Millenium Park. Friend [livejournal.com profile] rollick posts extensively about her trip to that same hallowed ground here, and does so with pictures, thus making her better than me. I really was kicking myself for not bringing my camera, the place is beautiful.

The shiny-reflective bean sculpture you can see yourself in is nifty, and the new lawn stage setup is downright keen, but the crowning jewel of the park in my opinion is the spitting fountain. [livejournal.com profile] spreadnparanoia and I encountered the same running-screaming children phenomenon that [livejournal.com profile] rollick complains about in her post, and simply elected to run with it. We, as the fountain's designer clearly intended, took off our shoes and strolled through the nicely cooled water and admired the fountain in all its ridiculous cool-looking glory. I'm sure its better at night, but it was pretty neat-looking during the day. At one point [livejournal.com profile] spreadnparanoia insisted she needed to frolic, handed me her shoes and purse, and left me standing there laughing while she capered around the place grinning maniacally and getting her skirt soaking wet.

The other highlight of our visit to the park were all the street performers, who were there for the opening. After having visited all the major sights, the two of us got ice cream and then wandered backwards from whence we had come actually checking out all the music and art. By far the coolest thing we spotted was something called the Robot Liberation Front, which was basically a pair of guys in full-body costumes (which included stilts) dressed up as robots of the Japanese anime variety. Upon closer inspection the suits appeared to be constructed of re-used laundry detergent and bleach bottles stripped of their labels, but they were incredibly cool-looking and lifelike (if you take my meaning) nonetheless. They reminded me most of the robots from FLCL, really. [livejournal.com profile] spreadnparanoia watched the two robots lumber towards one another, convinced there was an epic battle royale in store, but then they met each other and just sort of minced around, not-quite-dancing. It was anticlimactic.

Anyway. I still don't have a job, and I'm leaving Wednesday morning to head back East for my sister's wedding, which is on Saturday. I should still be online, but I will be out of EvIL until August 2nd.

UPDATE: On a totally unrelated note, those morons in my home state rioted at a Dave Matthew's concert. AGAIN.
