enthusiastickConnecticut is a strange place, and I'm getting to know it better than I ever have before as I result of my job. I'm starting to connect up all my mental maps of the various towns and counties and highways into one coherent picture of the state, so that I now know where, say, Meriden is in relation to Southington as opposed to just having a vague idea where each of them lay relative to Hartford. An example of the strange-ness of my home state: the last highway sign I pass before I drive to work in the morning, the sign not for the exit I'm currently utilizing but for the upcoming one, reads "Exit 22 -- East Berlin." It always makes me smile, particularly given that my job is in Newington and therefore nowhere near, y'know, Germany.
And speaking of driving to work, if anyone hasn't caught wind of this yet, I bought a car. I did want to thank everyone for their advice, even though I didn't really follow much of it. I ended up being unable to find a Subaru that satisfied my requirements within my price range (I think their current popularity is inflating their price somewhat) so instead I went with a 1997 Honda Accord EX. It has a leather interior, power everything including moon roof, and is an inoffensive dark green color. The car also has a CD player, which was definitely an unexpected bonus, although as a quaint artifact of its vintage I discovered this morning that it doesn't believe in the existence of burned CDs (which is no big deal, I use my iTrip a lot anyway.)
I'm heading up to Needham for turkey and family stuff tomorrow and then returning to West Hartford for a three-day weekend. syganzychick's place Sunday nights. I already have expressed intent to hang out with Jon S, Salome and Sara... perhaps there will also be a Horowitz and god only knows who else.
