Last night after [livejournal.com profile] pax_malificus' Mage game (which I have missed, desperately, and which I am ecstatic to be a part of again however briefly) I gave rides home to [livejournal.com profile] spreadnparanoia and Zoe. And as Zoe was getting out of the car she pleaded with me briefly to stay at least through this Saturday's Dead City game. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And I'm thinking about doing it, too. Its just another couple of days, right?

I haven't made any progress in the job search. But being here has brought me a certain clarity. It has confirmed my feeling that this is where I want to be. But its also made me realize that its not enough just to be here; I have to make a place for myself here, build myself a life, or I won't be happy. So the Plan, insofar as it exists (that is to say, mostly in my head) is to go home and become a substitute teacher in CT for the Spring. Salome assures me that its easy to do, and she might even be right. Simultaneously I will apply to programs out here for Teaching Certification. I could start summer term if I really rushed it. This will involve taking out loans, but everyone's got those, right? I'm looking mostly at DePaul, where it looks like I can complete the coursework for Illnois Secondary Certification in about a year.

Everytime I think about putting these plans into action I get queasy. Because it means taking responsibility for my life and my future, which still scares me fundamentally. But what else can I do?

I tried to get a message to you earlier about this. There's a way to be going for certification and getting paid, but you've gotta go through the Montessori system. There are a couple of schools out in Chicago, but it would allow you to be there without taking out the loans, and getting certified. However, it would only work if you wanted to stay with the Montessori system. Do a search on it and see if you can find any leads that way.

Andy can tell you about DePaul - he's there now getting a Masters' for education, but he's done a bunch of research on the certifications, requirements and stuff. Rob's got our number (I don't want to post it), so feel free to give us a call. He's usually home after 8:30-ish. :)

I was under the impression that the Montessori method was for pre-school and primary education only. I am interested pretty much exclusively in secondary school education.

well, you don't really know me, given that I was usually only around DCP for about 10 minutes at a time when you were there. But I know that you know Andy, and that he'd be happy to talk to you if you were interested. And I like to help people (as most of the Old Guard can tell you). :)

oh..and given that Andy's generally not so good with reading and commenting on LJ, just consider it that I'm commenting for him. :)

If you're coming back to ct for a little while, also contact Kingswood. They have that whole teaching fellows program for alumni. Im not sure if you even need a certificate for it...

Well, I hope you can make it home before Wednesday. I'd like to chill with you before I take off.

This is true. You could do the Kingswood program while you get your masters. I think they're taking applications right now. I'll ask my Dad.

...On second thought, your sister will still be there.
