Here is how the day went:

9:05 -- Wake up and get out of bed to shower. Note the bedroom door and door to apartment are ajar. Write it off as them having not latched properly in the first place.
9:40 -- Unable to locate my bag after shower. Chalk it up to general disorder, leave late for class.
11:55 -- After classes, receive message from Josh (who is on his way to the airport, heading home for the weekend) citing failure to find his keys before leaving. Disturbing paranoia sets in.
c. 1:00 -- After clearing away the disorder, my bag and Josh's keys are still missing. Blue discovers that his pants are missing.
1:30 -- Blue discovers his car has been stolen. We call the police and hysteria sets in.

* Mike's bag (contents: Mike's linoleum prints, books and homework)
* Josh's apartment keys and car keys
* Eben's bag (contents: CD discman, full 25 CD binder, books and homework)

Oh, crap. I'm sorry to hear that. I've had my car stolen, and I know what a miserable feeling it is. And particularly unpleasant to know someone's out there with all your keys. Have you talked to your landlord/apartment association yet?

And does your place have clearly assigned parking places? How did they know which car matched up with Mike's keys? That's just creepy.

Our apartment does assigned parking spaces, and Blue's pretty sure he saw someone watching him park his car in the middle of the night (the night it happened.) Blue's car is also the only Volvo in the lot. We're all a little fascinated that they passed up Josh's Lexus SUV; it seems fairly certain they were specifically after the station wagon.

Cripes on a cracker. So what did the police say? Is there any sign how they got in? Was the lock picked, or broken, or what?

They got in because the door was unlocked. Simple (and creepy and terrifying) as that. They came in while we were all sleeping, nabbed Josh's keys and all the other scattered items that seemed likely to contain keys and wallets, and were gone without even super-light-sleeper Blue waking up.

Yeah, I'm still in the Blue Whale, same apartment as last year. I haven't heard about anyone else getting hit - our bad luck, it looks like.

Yeah, me too. Its creepy that there's been someone in our apartment - he even came into the bedroom Josh and I are in to get Josh's keys.
