Today my parents drove to Rhode Island and back to pick up my little sister's Christmas surprise: a chocolate labrador puppy. She's dozing in the crate behind me as we speak (the puppy, not my sister); she's 8 weeks old and sooo cute. The whole family (minus my older sister Sarah, who's not around) has been playing with her all day. She's very friendly and definitely enjoys the company of people.

She still doesn't have a name, tho'. I'm not looking for suggestions here... suggestions we have in abundance. We've narrowed the field down to about a dozen possibilities (my personal favorite being Delia), but trying to get six family members to agree on a name for a puppy is a lot like trying to get us to decide on pizza toppings. It'll be a long and arduous negotiation with lots of compromise and at least one disappointment.

In other news... there's this ongoing practical joke feud between two families in my town, both of whom my family are friends with. Every year the father of the one family sneaks something tacky or off-color into the other family's Christmas display. It started a few years back when he rigged up colored water and an automated pump to make it seem that their beautiful white wicker reindeer were urinating. Each year things have escalated until recently they've gotten totally out of hand. Case in point: this year they had a Port-A-Potty delivered, covered in Christmas lights. The front door faces a fairly busy street and is left open to reveal a life-sized Santa Claus dummy on the pot.

Some days I love Connecticut. They don't come very often, but some days...

Unrelated to your post, but have you ever listened to The Pogues? I remember you having some Flogging Molly, which borrows a lot from the Pogues as far as style is considered.

Pretty much the entire Celtic-rock and Irish-rock genre can be said to borrow from the Pogues in some way. Yes, I am a big fan of the Pogues... and of all of Shane McGowan's work, really. And since a post on your journal indicated that you were getting into that style of music, allow me to recommend Great Big Sea as well.
