Today I went to Buchenwald. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Holocaust history, Buchenwald was the site of a Concentration Camp from 1937 to 1945, during which time an estimated 56,000 people were killed there.

I found the experience wholly singular in my lifetime. I was sickened and depressed in a way I do not feel I can do justice to in writing. Thankfully by the time the tour was over and I was on the busride home I had already reached the point of overload and found myself unable to even really think about what I had just seen.

I had sort of been avoiding visiting the various historical sites from the Second World War in Germany, for much this reason. I'm glad now that I went, because it was a good experience... but don't ever ask me to go again.
