I had a very good weekend. Friday night I managed to rendezevous with Jon H and play some poker with a few friends. Saturday was ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
syganzychick's much anticipated birthday pub crawl, which went excellently in my opinion. Sunday was hungover D&D, again with syganzychick and crew, including two new members to the party. I'm not sure that gaming group isn't at critical mass, but things went OK so I'll keep my hopes up. And then Monday night I hung out with my ex-high-school-girlfriend tabascosea of all people, who is incidentally going to become a SuicideGirl in the coming months (this must be what going mad feels like.)
And all of that seemed so. goddamn'd. important.
Then today I came home from work to the tail end of a message from my uncle. I didn't catch enough of it to make sense of it by context, but it was clear from his tone that Something Was Up. Review of the message revealed that my grandmother (on my mother's side) had a stroke today and is in the hospital. This is the same grandmother whose 90th birthday celebration is planned for the end of this month. A number of frantic phone calls around the family I didn't know much more than that; she apparently stopped responding to my grandfather earlier today, and then while he was on the phone with 911 fell out of her chair.
My uncle has gone to Cape Cod to keep my grandfather company. My grandmother is "resting comfortably" in the hospital. Last anyone heard from a doctor she was experiencing paralysis on the left side of her body and either unable or unwilling to speak. Its too soon to know anything for sure, really, but the next day or so will be critical. My mother and aunt are planning to join my uncle and grandfather tomorrow -- tomorrow morning weather permitting, but as soon as possible in any case.
