I have an exam tomorrow at noon. I must receive a C or better in this class or I will not graduate Northwestern. I received a D grade on the midterm (%25 of my grade) and will not know about the results of the paper (%50 of my grade) until the final tomorrow (the remaining %25 of my grade.) I am only moderately confident in the paper.

The final is supposed to be of the relatively terse variety. It will be drawn from lecture but also primarily from a book, Zachary S. Schiffman's Humanism & the Renaissance specifically. Theoretically it will consist of answering 20 out of 22 (or some numbers thereabouts) fill-in-the blank questions to the effect of "[Author]'s selection in the Schiffman book suggests that [Author]'s main argument concerning Humanism in Italy is ____________."

After having written the paper using basically only this book, I appear to have misplaced it. There is no Blackboard site so I cannot contact my classmates, and I am not friendly with any of them anyway. The library does not own a copy of the book. The bookstore will not re-open until 8:30 tomorrow, and I do not know if they still have copies of the book. Without a chance to review the contents of this book I am very likely in deep, deep trouble.

You have friends. They have cars. They want to see you graduate. Prevail upon them. At least call and find out what your options are. Some bookstores in the area, you'd be able to get to easily by el before 10, if you call now.

No luck either way. Borders doesn't have the book and the Barnes & Noble people, after some initial recalcitrance, admitted to also not having it (or simply lied to get me off the phone.) I'm just going to have to cross my fingers about being able to get it in the Norris bookstore tomorrow morning.
