Does anyone have any interest in my sister's wedding photos? I sort of assumed not, but then I realized said photos include me in a tuxedo.

The weather is supposed to turn sucky for the first half of this week, but thus far we've seen little evidence of it. Yesterday the clouds burned off enough that my family went to the beach for lunch. I promptly didn't put any sunscreen on and fell asleep on a towel, thus giving myself a bad but one-sided sunburn. Today there are persistent rumors of rain later in the day but things have been beautiful so far - or at least they look that way from indoors, where I have mostly been nursing my burned skin.

Last night I was awakened by the sound of the coyotes again. More of them than I had ever heard before, and closer to the house. Its really a nightmarish sound, like a pack of goblins torturing a child. I have to admit I find it much more cool than scary, though.

This morning my father and I were called out of the house by my mother's frantic shouting. There we found the puppy, Mia, with a rat trap clutched in her mouth which she had sucesfully broken open with her paws. We managed to get the thing away from her, but given that she appeared to have consumed a large quantity of rat poison my parents rushed her immediately to the animal hospital. There we were pleased to find out that the sticky substance all over the dog was not poison but instead glue. So we gave her a bath. The whole experience was obviously very tiring for her, as she's been asleep all day.

I finished Wicked. The ending was very unsatisfying, in that I'm not sure all of Elphaba's actions were ultimately justified by what was otherwise a very rich characterization. It did make me even more curious about the musical version, which I will have to pick up. Someone commented that Maguire's other books are crap, and I have a theory about that. I think this one is as good as it is because Oz is such a rich setting to begin with - a setting many books deep that allows the novel to work on many different levels. I think in the absence of that Maguire's writing could just come out very terse and boring.

Anyway. My sister is home from a hard day's work at Cape Cod Sea Camp, and tomorrow [livejournal.com profile] spreadnparanoia arrives. I love being on vacation.
