(Its possible this post belongs under the overall heading of my infrequent interactive interrogatives, but whatever. Happy St. Valentine's Day, everyone.)

Barring serious weather trouble, my drive out to Chicago begins in less than a week. I will be setting out on Thursday (February 17), arriving probably in the evening on Friday (February 18), and am planning to stay two weeks (through March 4). And for all that this trip has been in the works for ages, and for all the e-mails I have been frantically sending and job sites I have resumed searching and posting to with full intensity... thus far my prospects for even interviewing anywhere seem kinda grim, frankly. But I'm holding out hope until at least the second week of my visit. Despair just isn't useful at this stage.

Anyway, I thought I'd mention to all of you that I'm pretty much desperate for a Chicago-area job at this point. I want to come home permanently so badly I can taste it. I'll take a mindless, thankless job at a meager wage (within reason... barely) if it allows me to accomplish this goal. So does anyone out there in LJ-land have a job for me? Or know anyone that might?

What's the gist of what you're looking for? I can see what Ace has open, etc.

O... K. Let me take a crack at that again, only this time give a useful answer. The trouble is that I'm pretty much underskilled and inexperienced -- I've held down a number of part-time and temporary jobs and exactly one internship, none of which especially prepared me to work in a particular field. I've talked about going into public relations, mostly because I think I'd be good at it. But I'll do anything.

What I really want to "do with my life" at this point is, I think, teach high school. But I imagine ACE can't help me with that.

Also, as a sidenote: thank you so, so much Loopy. Everytime I have wailed and whinged for help on this LJ you've been among the first to respond with genuine offers of assistance. I just want to make sure you know how much I appreciate that.

No problemo...I know how hard it can be, starting out from school. I'm glad to help, however I can. :-)

If you're interested in PR, you should see if Emlyn still has any contacts from her old job...she did a lot of PR work right out of school, too.

dude, go on craigslist. they have lots of jobs although you may not like them all. I suggest SAT tutoring, or tutoring in general...decent pay, flexible hours!

Sorry, just getting to this entry from days of LJ nonreading....

www.hewitt.com $28000 a year. Use my email address (firstname.lastname@hewitt.com) as the referrer and I get shiny monies!

Other than that....have you thought of applying at NU?
