I went to see Cursed tonight with
king_biscuit. What better way to celebrate Oscar night than to go and see a terrible movie? And let me tell you it was a truly terrible movie. I mean, first of all, its a werewolf movie with Scott Baio playing himself in a major cameo. Second of all the characters all appeared to inhabit some bizarre parallel Wes Craven universe where logic does not apply, particularly in the realm of conversation and interpersonal relations. In this universe conversations are all halting and awkward (almost as though the script suffered a year of re-writes, re-casting, and re-shooting. Oh wait, it did.) Also in the Wes-Craven-verse stalking is not only a socially acceptable activity, its sometimes downright sexy.
Frankly the whole thing quickly passed into the realm of "so bad its good", particularly as I was sitting with
king_biscuit and a feast of junk food and we just tore the movie all to shit as we watched it. I don't think I'm spoiling anything for anyone when I tell you that the movie's ending actually made me want to cry tears of blood. It was astounding, although I suppose that's only to be expected given what a staggeringly bad movie it was. I'm not saying it was on the same level as Underworld or anything, but, well. It was visually interesting in certain places (terrible in others, tho'), and as a geek it was fun to trace the copious RPG-references. So, in short, entertaining but bad, or possibly entertainingly bad.
