I wish I was one of those people who could really make icons. Mine always come out vaguely amateurish at best. I look at the work that [livejournal.com profile] zerbie does when she's in the mood, or [livejournal.com profile] nakanai or [livejournal.com profile] a_leprechaun. And then I play around with filters and things, and my results never come out nearly that good, and I growl and give up. I can see what I want in my mind's eye, I just have never achieved that much skill with computer graphics programs.

EDIT: Also, today's Something Positive gave me warm fuzzies.

See, and here I was seriously considering asking you to make me an icon because I always like the way yours come out. Go figure.

I hate to say this, because it sounds condescending, but I think you only think that because you are new to the LJ community and have not seen some of the really pretty things other people make.

However I am quickly learning to be a wholly unstoppable badass at this, so never mind what I just said.

Today's S*P was fantastic.

There're a TON of icon communities on LJ; one of them, icon_tutorial, helps new people make better icons. If you can wade through the AOLspeak in the comments, they have some really helpful tutorials.

Thanks!

icon_tutorial led me to The Gimp, which is a significant step up from the ancient copy of PSP I was working with. And there many tutorials taught me to do things I've been wanting to learn for ages.
