tell them how I am Defying Gravity
Jun. 23rd, 2005 12:48 amFor those of you waiting on tenterhooks to hear the outcome of the whole Public Storage thing... well, I guess you're going to go on waiting, because I still don't know. I posted a payment to the website, and they took my money, and that seems to me like a good sign. But I called once and left a message and they haven't gotten back to me, and I haven't called again, because I'm afraid of what I might find out. But I'm feeling significantly more hopeful about it than I was the last time I made a post.
So what kind of week has it been?
Well, I saw Batman Begins. Twice, actually: once with
sleetfall (more on him in a minute) and once with Stephie. And it not only met but exceeded my expectations. I've heard some people get nitpicky and critical of the film, and I for one won't stand for it. None of the major nitpicks bothers me in the slightest. I can't really get more specific without getting spoiler-ific in the process, and I have no desire to do this thing. But I will say that there are people in the world who have qualms about the science of a particular big weapon in this film, and unto them I specifically say "feh!" Its comic book science. Get over yourselves.
Saturday night I went out to see the Full Body Cast production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show with
sleetfall,
amuronomiko and her roommate, and Rachael Abed who was up visiting from Connecticut. We were also supposed to meet
amuronomiko's friend Trent, but he apparently bailed on us. The cast was really quite good. They had a chick playing Frank, which I am OK with because the intensity of her performance was commendable. And the woman playing Columbia was fairly hot. With the notable exception of the girl playing Janet everyone seemed to be really into things.
Now when I say everyone, I mean everyone in the cast. If I had to complain about one thing at this show, it would be the audience. They got moderately into the Time Warp, but other than a few serious die-hards doing the callbacks the audience's energy was lower than I'd ever seen. I commented at the end of the night that I may finally have outgrown Rocky, and that may or may not be true, but I have definitely outgrown seeing it with anything less than a packed theater looking to tear shit up. In any event, I surmise everyone in my little group had a good time. I say surmise because frankly the evening ended significantly more rapidly than I, on reflection, would have liked. But people (including me) were exhausted, so oh well.
On Monday I caught up with Jon Horowitz, which is good because he's moving to Seattle and I suspect sometime in the next couple of years he's going to end up famous in Hollywood. Hey, you film people I know (
adampb,
timeshaper,
yeppiagree, and potentially
cassielsander I'm looking at you-all) remind me to get you in touch with him if you ever end up Westward bound. He's an amazing screenwriter, I'm serious about this. Anyway, I bummed around near Fenway with him and had a number of miniature adventures, none of which deserve summary treatment, and then I met up with his family and Stephie (again! twice in one week, will wonders never cease) and his parents bought me dinner, so that was nice.
I'd like to close with a couple of shout-outs... firstly to
kailunkat: welcome to the world of livejournal. It may not be as "cool" as deadjournal, but whatever, you're here now and that's keen. And secondly a shoutout to my bro-for-life
sleetfall. He knows why, and he may get around to telling you all about it, but in the meantime let me say this: in the story of Jon, 6/22/2005 can officially be marked down as a Very Good Day.
