Work is really dragging today, big time. Last week I didn't have any classes, so the training class was assigned a bit of grunt work to keep us busy. That wrapped up on Friday, and there's still no class on the horizon until Thursday. That leaves me with little to do -- aside from, of course, the seemingly endless amount of reading pressing down upon me like a stone weight.

I'm having a lot of trouble with the current reading, Understanding Financial Statements, probably due to the fact that I don't have any accounting or finance background whatsoever. The reading is incredibly dry and quite dense, so basically I can only read a page or two at a time before my mind wanders due to the sheer volume of information being thrown at it. Its tough to assimilate what I'm learning or make any real progress. Normally I would rely on classes to supplement my understanding of the reading, but the current coursework is actually largely unrelated to our reading and focuses instead on hazard analysis. Whee.

This past Thursday night Jacqui came into town with a friend of hers. I hadn't seen Jacqui in... gosh, it must be years. She played tourist and I played tour guide (despite the fact that she grew up not far from here), and a good time was had by all. [livejournal.com profile] sleetfall met up with us after dinner and we went to Jillian's to embarass ourselves playing pool. We were all, for reasons unknown, spectacularly bad that night. I can't even claim intoxication, I didn't drink enough. I bought the Sports Night boxed set as a treat for myself, but the discs are all scratched up so I'm going to have to return it, which is irritating.

Anyway, I had a pretty good weekend. There was more poker at [livejournal.com profile] sleetfall's on Friday; I lost, but I played pretty tight so I don't feel bad about it. Sometimes the cards just don't come. My father drove up on Saturday afternoon in my mother's station wagon, and together we hauled maybe half of my stuff from my current place in Brighton to my new place in Allston. I'll move the rest myself on Thursday when I can actually start living in the new place. The studio apartment was, walking around in it, bigger than I remembered, which is kind of nice. I'm super psyched about the idea of having space that is unquestionably mine to do with as I please. I haven't lived alone for years now, and its very appealing to me as a result.

The rest of the weekend I mostly hung out with [livejournal.com profile] thablueguy, helping him a bit with props for the upcoming Prophet's Fall event. I even went to a staff meeting on Sunday, which was really helpful to me in my understanding of what's going on in the game. It makes me wish I was going to get a chance to get more involved, rather than just sort of dipping my toes in the water. Ah well. Anyway, anyone interested in spending a weekend in mid-September chasing around in the woods of western Massachusetts (and, y'know, roleplaying while you're at it) should let me know and I'll put you in touch with the PF people.

I made an appointment to get my cable/phone/internet in my new apartment after I move in, and the only time spot they could offer me was Saturday from 8 AM to 5 PM. That's the whole freakin' day, people! But all of Boston moves on the 1st, so I suppose I have no one to blame but myself for not calling earlier. I should, um, probably buy a television before Saturday so the guy has something to hook the cable box up to. Also a telephone. I dunno when I'll have time to run these errands. I'm moving tomorrow and Thursday, and I certainly don't want to do it Friday night. So that leaves, what, tonight? Eesh.
