If I had been so inclined, I could definitely have made a belated NaDruWriNi post this Saturday evening. I was wrecked. Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] fly_nimue_fly, and thank you for a wonderful party. I haven't felt comfortable enough to get that blitzed in ages. Thanks are also due to [livejournal.com profile] sleetfall, who's continuing illness saddled him with the role of designated driver. He put up with me babbling at him on the ride home when I was so inebriated my face was numb. And I suppose I should also apologize to my sister Kate, who was in town for the weekend. We kind of took turns accidentally blowing one another off.

Monday came too soon.

dude, thanks for coming :)

i'll have you know that i was singing Rent at the top of my lungs yesterday...did you notice that strangely "Contact" was not included in the CDs? i'm concerned about that...i hope they didn't censor the movie in order to attract a larger audience...that would make me weep with dismay

but yes...that party kicked mega booty and i'm glad you could be a part of it

Contact is hardly the only thing missing from the movie soundtrack. Most of the incidental music is missing (all of the Tune Ups, Voicemails and Christmas Bells.) A number of references to the events taking place on Christmas Eve have been replaced with them taking place on Christmas Day. And perhaps most distressingly literally all mention of Mark's documentary has been removed, down to his meta-narration and speaking in the third person during Goodbye Love. All of this leads me to believe that the movie is a significantly different animal from the stage play. It remains to be seen whether that's a good or bad thing.

see, i figured a few of the edits were done either for the sake of the "flow" of the CDs (which is pretty weird in some parts) and also for movie time...they did it with the Chicago movie too...some relatively significant songs were removed, but i really liked what they did with the movie so i'm hoping Rent isn't edited and rewritten to shit

for all of the soundtrack's shortcomings (overall i thought it was still very very good) the fact that they directed the movie with that much of the original cast makes me really really happy...if they had gotten someone like Ewan McGregor to play Roger i might have had a coniption
