Ich sinke als ein Stein im Meer...
Aug. 20th, 2003 02:30 pmAnd now, for a brief interlude of mostly non-Germany related stuff.
First of all, my mother reminded me that I had promised to stay home and care for my little sister the second weekend in September. She conned me into doing this (much in the manner of the Turkey Curry Buffet in Bridget Jones' Diary) by asking me sometime in May. "Oh, Eben, you don't mind staying home the second weekend after you get back from Germany to watch your little sister, do you?" 'What, Mom? I haven't even subconsciously started to process that I'm really going to Germany yet.'
Anyway. All this means I won't be going to Prophet's Fall or to see vnv nation in NYC. Either one of which would have been fun. Much with the suck.
I have decided I need a new LJ avatar. That grinning picture of me with pink hair is nice and all, but its a bit outdated and besides everyone I know but me uses a range of cool personality-appropriate pictures in their LJ. This will probably have to wait until I'm back in the States, tho'. The pink hair thing just depresses me anyway, since it reminds me that I may never dye my hair again, as its possible I will only have my hair for a little bit longer. What, didn't I mention? My maternal grandfather's hair thinned rather significantly during his senior year of college. Receding hairline, bald spot, the works. I'm seriously gonna ask my doctor about Rogaine and all that nonsense when I get home... but even so, my days of wild hair are probably past. *WHINE*
I finished the new Harry Potter book. I bought the Goblet of Fire to re-read since I was sick of continuously reading over the slim selection of English books I had brought with me. I had fooled myself into thinking that once I was done I could just wait 'till I got back to America and borrow my little sisters' copy of the Order of the Phoenix. Ha ha... ha. I shelled out 16.80 Euros for a copy of the British edition, and then devoured it in a matter of days, causing myself to miss class on Monday since I was up so late reading.
It was, in fact, quite a good read. I agree with certain people who complain that Rowling sort of stacked the book with 'teaser' death moments and then stuck the real thing in at the last possible moment. But that's a minor and easily forgiveable thing.
I just went back and looked for reviews of the book to excerpt and agree with, thus totally avoiding spoilers, and discovered that the one I agree most with is Tasha's, from the Onion AV Club.
Why is fate endeavoring to remind me of that group so much over the past few days? Its really weird... if my life were a movie... but no, nevermind.
Oh. And it turns out that the Dashboard Confessional show I was planning on attending in early October (at the Aragon) will also feature MXPX, some group called Vendetta Red, and Brand New. I was so excited by this news when I read it that I actually accidentally muttered "Holy flaming cockspit!" out loud, before remembering I was in public. Fortuantely I'm in Germany, so only %15 of the people in the University Computer lab actually understood what I was saying anyway.
Berlin this weekend to see my Dad, and then I'm home at the end of the month. Must not count down the days, must not count down the days... seriously, I'm having a good time. But I will enjoy coming home!

Date: 2003-08-20 11:57 am (UTC)This all started because I was poking around my Personal Info and realized (as often occurs) that someone had listed me as a friend who I was unaware of. It turned out to be
I sincerely considered adding you as a friend as well, but then I remembered that I can't recall having seen or communicated with you in over a year, so I held off. Now I'm torn...

Date: 2003-08-20 12:07 pm (UTC)If not seeing me is a problem, though, you should maybe be aware that I'm likely coming back to DCP this year. If Evil's character concept goes through, there's going to be a whole cadre of Old Guard types accompanying him — me, Paul, Toni, and Andy are currently on board as his coterie / supporters.

Date: 2003-08-20 12:26 pm (UTC)Wait a minute... didn't you say in your Personal Info you don't call him Evil?
Anyway. If you have not done so already, consider coming to say hi at the forums (http://forums.boxedchaos.com/) Rob is graciously hosting for us on his webspace. I look forward to your return.

Date: 2003-08-20 12:50 pm (UTC)And I know about the boxedchaos stuff — Rob's also hosting a discussion board for another game we're both in — but I only just got access to the DCP side of the board, and haven't had time to delve yet. I should probably get on that, given that we're getting closer to the first game all the time.
