And I'm back online. Whee!
The Weimar program is going great so far... its only been two days, but they've been long, long days. Y'know?
Turns out, entirely unexpectedly and unbeknownst to everyone, there are five kids from Northwestern here. And that's just that I've met so far: Weixuan (sp?), Heather, Shira, Nick and me. Weixuan is from Singapore, I've had German with her a couple times. She's quite nice and will be a junior next year. Heather just graduated as a Chemistry major. Shira is in the same group as me in the program here, and is nice if a little on the preppy side of things. She's studying here in the Fall, pending succesful completion of enough German classes that she gains relative proficiency. Nick I can't really pin down... he seems a little... shifty.
I live in an absolutely fabulous apartment-type thing on the fifth floor of a dorm on Hummelstrasse, which is pretty much as central as I can possibly be. I fall out my back yard into the German national theater, I'm smack dab in the middle of this awesome little city. I share a kitchen and bathroom with two other guys: Chris (from Poland) and Wataru (from Tokyo.) Both are nice... Chris is a little loud and likes his car magazines a bit too much, but I'll forgive him that. We have a nice kitchen, but no pots nor pans, so it should be interesting. Also since we're in the middle of an ungodly heat wave living on the fifth floor of a building with no air conditioning is not, shall we say, ideal. But hopefully that will improve with time. Freakin' global warming.
Anyway. The program seems like summer camp for grown-ups so far, which suits me perfectly and makes me much happier than all the ridiculous nonsense of Bad-Godesberg. Oh! And I don't have to pay for internet access here! Hooray for free university computer pools!
More updates as events warrant.
